Eames Plastic Armchair RE DAW – Vitra

Today the Plastic Chairs RE by Charles and Ray Eames seem like archetypes of the genre of chairs whose shell can be combined with diverse bases. The DAW (Dining Height Armchair Wood Base) pairs the wooden base with a shell made of post-consumer recycled plastic, creating a rich contrast of materials. The seat shells are also available with a seat cushion or full upholstery.

Charles & Ray Eames, 1950

Seat shell:  dyed-through, recycled polypropylene, 100% recyclable. All models are available with a seat cushion (screwed to the seat shell) or full upholstery. The completely upholstered version has padding moulded from recyclable polyurethane foam ‘V-Foam’ and covered in fabric, which is fastened to the shell with a welted edge. Different shell and upholstery colours and various bases provide a multitude of possible combinations.

Note:  due to the composition of the recycled material, the seat shell colours exhibit very subtle specks of pigment.

Options:  the Eames Plastic Chair RE is available as a visitor chair, dining chair, rocking chair, swivel chair or in stacking versions and with ganging brackets for row seating. Beam-mounted shells are suited for use in waiting areas.

Base:  wooden base in various shades of maple or honey-toned ash, stained and lacquered finish. Steel rod cross struts in basic dark. (DAW = Dining Height Armchair Wood Base)

Origin of wood:  ash (Fraxinus excelsior) and maple (Acer platanoides) from Western Europe and/or Poland.
