With her unmistakable design signature, what Patricia Urquiola creates is an invitation to travel, in the form of furniture – through the Hayama collection, made up of a cabinet, bar, hutch and console – all inspired by the traditional Japanese Haori jacket that is worn over a kimono. These elegant lacquered pieces of furniture are a figurative example of the place where the finely crafted oblique legs meet the ancient art of lacquer finish, terrain upon which the Meda artisans thrive. The bar elicits a striking visual effect that lends depth to any space through a mirror that, on three sides, frames a shelf in extra-clear glass, while the lower part, made up of two centre drawers and two side compartments, is illuminated by LED lights. Hayama is also a hutch and a console envisioned for an entry or foyer. The collection is available in a version with canneté doors or with smooth finish to highlight even more the geometric contrast between the horizontal lines and the verticality of the front.
